The Family Services Division is the community welfare arm of Somerville. The role of the division is to assist people to participate in society at the greatest level to which they aspire and are capable of achieving. Family Services staff work with people of all ages - children, adolescents and adults, and can work with families, couples or individuals. They assist anyone who is experiencing a crisis or problem in their life.

 

The division also provides counselling and psychotherapy, practical, emotional and educative support, financial counselling and short to medium term supported accommodation. The division offers advocacy, liaison and referral to other agencies and professionals. While the services that are offered vary greatly, they each have a common theme - that is;


"To empower people to exert control over their own lives".

The Family Services Division provides the following services in the Darwin and Palmerston areas.

 

Family Support & Counselling service provides information, advocacy and referrals, and assist individuals and families with a wide range of issues, including:

 

Relationship Difficulties Trauma Self Esteem
Stress Emotional Difficulties Depression
Parenting Addictive Behaviours Domestic Violence
Grief and Loss Anxiety

Psychologists can provide psychotherapeutic services to:

 

Couples Families Adolescents
Individuals Adults Children

 

Financial Counselling service offers assistance to low income earners and small businesses with a wide range of financial matters including:

 

Money Management
General Debt and bankruptcy

 

Supported Accommodation service in Palmerston, provides medium term supported accommodation, generally for families and can assist people in crisis with finding accommodation.
