The official opening of our major capital project – stage 2 of the Palmerston Community centre was held on May the 12th. The NT Government funded project recognises the need for more services in Palmerston, where the expanding population continues to link with our services.
Minister for Children and Families John Elferink and Member for Drysdale Lia Finocchiaro joined staff from Somerville Community Services to officially open stage two of the Palmerston Community Centre.
The facility will allow residents in Palmerston and surrounding areas to access much-needed services including family and support counselling, financial counselling, and money management assistance.
Somerville’s free Financial Counselling Helpline 1800 007 007 will also operate out of the new facility and continue to provide information and advice on general debt, income management and budgeting issues.
All people experience hardship during their lifetime, and should have comfort that there are accessible services in the community. The expansion of the Victoria Drive premises will in essence provide a more accessible and convenient location for our clients, catering for the growing number of people who seek our services.
This major capital project came about because our Northern Territory Government shared Somerville’s Vision and realised the need for enhanced and increased services in the Palmerston and outlying regions.
Somerville Community Services would like to thank the Northern Territory Government for supporting our Vision, which will have enormous benefits for the Palmerston Community.
Somerville constantly strives to fulfil key goals set out in our Strategic plan. The expansion of Victoria Drive fulfils and expands on one of our Key Achievements for 2013-2014 to enable, Somerville to provide increased capacity and Support for our Financial and Family Service Clients.
