Recognition for Annual Tax Help program

This year our Financial Services team helped over 200 low income earners complete and lodge their tax returns as part of our free Tax Help Program run in conjunction with the ATO.

Congratulations to our financial counsellors who received certificates of appreciation for their great work from the ATO.

Somerville’s Christmas Hamper Appeal

Due to the current economic climate, more people than ever are turning to organisations like Somerville for assistance. It is no longer only vulnerable groups such as the homeless seeking relief, but also the aged, single parents and the working poor.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the students, parents, and teachers of The Essington School, who have provided a huge amount of support for the Somerville Christmas Hamper Appeal. Their generosity will enable us to provide Christmas food hampers and presents to those most in need.

Christmas Gift Wrapping

Somerville’s major fund raising event, the annual Christmas Gift Wrapping Service is underway for 2015.

You’ll find our helpful staff in convenient locations at Casuarina, Palmerston and the Mitchell Centre in the City.

Imagine how much easier Christmas gifting can be. You can put your presents straight under the tree without the need to run around the house finding places to hide unwrapped presents.

A small fee is charged depending on the size of the gift but you will be helping fellow Territorians with your generosity.

Recognising our long-serving staff

Loyal, dependable staff are the backbone of Somerville, particularly those who serve for an extended period. These dedicated people provide stability, corporate knowledge and an understanding of the values that drive us to deliver excellence in service standards.

Each year at the Somerville Christmas party we recognise the contribution of our long-serving staff with a certificate and trophy to celebrate their individual milestones.

Congratulations to the 2015 recipients of these prestigious awards.

Our Christmas Gift Box Appeal

It’s a sad fact that an overwhelming number of families will be unable to buy Christmas gifts for their children this year, so Somerville has launched the Christmas Gift Box Appeal, formerly Operation Santa, for 2015.

The Mayor of Palmerston, Mr Ian Abbott, officially opened the Appeal at the Target store in Palmerston where guests and shoppers enjoyed festivities and entertainment from The Palmerston Christian School Choir.

Supporting students and encouraging leadership at Kormilda College

Each year Somerville encourages and supports the students of Kormilda College to develop leadership skills and serve their community. For many years Somerville has offered the Somerville Leadership and Community Service Award to outstanding students in these areas.

Kormilda College recently held their end of year award night, which acknowledges the achievements of students and farewells graduates. The Somerville Leadership and Community Service Award was announced on the night.

Meet our inaugural Somerville Ambassadors

The Somerville Board is proud to announce that Mr Ron Burridge and Mrs Robyne Burridge have been named the inaugural Somerville Ambassadors for 2015.

This prestigious award recognises their ongoing commitment and service to our organisation over many years.

Ron is an avid fundraiser and devoted supporter of the local community while Robyn is a natural leader with passion and enthusiasm.

A step forward to independence and inclusion

A number of Somerville clients have recently completed the supported accommodation training program, Step Forward.

The course was developed by Somerville staff and equips participants with social, financial and interpersonal skills which enable them to cope with the increasing demands and challenges of everyday life.

Delivered over four months, the program comprises eight modules and on completion participants receive a certificate endorsing them as preferred tenants.

The program is open to all clients accessing Somerville services.

Visitors to Somerville

Staff from the NT Government Department of Housing grants management program recently visited Somerville to discuss our programs, provide service updates and tour our facilities.
