The Somerville No Interest Loans Scheme provides people on low incomes with flexible and affordable credit for the purchase of essential household items. The service is currently in Darwin, Palmerston and Katherine. Loans can only be used for the purchase of basic household whitegoods, e.g. fridge or washing machine.
All applicants are required to attend an interview to discuss their application. Information required includes name, address, accommodation status, income source and purpose of loan. We also require information such as proof of identity, tenancy agreement and details of your income and expenses as well as total debts outstanding.
People applying for loans must meet all of the following criteria:
- Centrelink recipients or low income earners eligible for a current Health Care Card.
- Applicants must reside in the Darwin, Palmerston and outer Darwin area with postcodes 0800 through to 0836, and in the Katherine 0850 postcode area.
- Applicants must have the ability and willingness to repay the loan.
- Somerville No Interest Loans Scheme is nationally accredited under the Good Shepherd Microfinance model.
