On 7th April 1942 there began a remarkable exodus of people from Croker Island, off the coast of Arnhem Land.  The story of the travels of 95 children and their missionary care-givers from the island across the Australian continent to the outskirts of Sydney is one of Australia's truly heroic sagas, but until it was chronicled by Margaret Somerville in They Crossed a Continent, the story was very little known.
