Anti-Poverty Week Event

Anti-Poverty Week is a week where all Australians are encouraged to organise or take part in an activity aiming at highlighting the issues of poverty and hardship.

Somerville Community Services recently held a community event in Confalonier Park, Gray in support of Anti-Poverty week.  Anti-Poverty Week is a week where all Australians are encouraged to organise or take part in an activity aiming at highlighting the issues of poverty and hardship.

Lia Finocchiaro, member for Drysdale attended the event and assisted with the many activities conducted on the day.

Children and families from the area attended and enjoyed the variety of events which included a free Sausage sizzle, Face Painting, a giant Snakes and Ladders game and an opportunity for the children to be involved in biscuit decorating.

There was a real sense of Community participation and everyone had a smile on their face.

Somerville staff took the opportunity to provide information on the many free services they provide which include: Counselling, Accommodation support and a range of Financial Services including Financial Counselling and Tax Help.

The high population growth, high growth forecast and higher proportion of children per capita in Palmerston establishes the need for a strategically placed community centre that Somerville offers in Victoria Drive.
